Formerly a fire captain and EMT, Skylar Limkemann brings his public‑safety background to his practice as a stakeholder partner at Hinders, Updegraff, Franklin & Limkemann, P.L.C., where he advises and defends municipalities, public‑safety organizations, nonprofit corporations, and employers. He frequently handles matters involving police, fire, and emergency medical services, including workers’ compensation, employment, civil rights, and municipal‑liability issues.
Skylar’s experience includes representing state and local police officers, correctional officers, emergency medical providers, and firefighters in civil and criminal jury trials, administrative proceedings, and appeals, including before the Iowa Supreme Court. As a member of employment, government, and municipal‑liability practice groups in his prior work, he counseled public‑safety labor organizations on a range of state and federal legal issues, such as internal investigations and civil‑rights complaints. He also advises on transactional matters for his clients.
PROFESSIONAL & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
While in law school at the University of Iowa College of Law, Skylar participated in the Stephenson Trial Advocacy Competition, the Appellate Advocacy program, and the legal clinic, including a clinical externship at the City of Iowa City Attorney’s Office and the Human Rights Commission. He gained additional courtroom experience through internships with the Des Moines County Attorney’s Office and Iowa’s Eighth Judicial District and is active in organizations such as the Iowa State Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Iowa Municipal Attorneys Association, Iowa Society of Fire Service Instructors, Tiffin Volunteer Fire Department, and Linn County Bar Association.
